Furry Tails Terms and Conditions for classes/one to ones (1-2-1)
Please note that payment for services and engaging in the training classes both private and group also implies full agreement with these Terms and Conditions.
Training and Handling Methods
By agreeing to the terms and conditions, you accept full liability for your dog’s well-being should an accident occur as a result of your dog being off the lead. It is also your responsibility to insure your pet to cover any vet bills in case of illness or an accident. Depending on the circumstances of an accident, we are also insured for public liability.
Training and Handling Methods
The training techniques used by Furry Tails Dog Training are based on the principles of positive reinforcement and, as such, are kind, fair and reward-based. Harsh handling of dogs, physical force and the use of punitive methods/ punishment/ corrections or equipment designed to be aversive (including choke chains, check chains, prong collars, slip leads, spray collars, e-collars or any other device deemed unacceptable by the trainer) are not permitted in classes or and should not be used in training.
Payment, Refunds and Cancellations
Training classes – A 50% refundable (if cancelled more than 1 week before the course starts) is required to book a place. Payment is required in full one week prior to the first day of training (less the deposit paid in advance). Once payment has been made, it is non-refundable. Occasionally, where a client is unable to take up their reserved place on a course, their credit may be transferred to another suitable class / service; this is at the sole discretion of Furry Tails Dog Training and will be dependent on us having another client to fill your place. We are unable to offer any refunds on missed group sessions.
One to One sessions (including Supplementary training sessions) – should be paid for a minimum of one week in advance of the booked time / date or at the time of making the booking. These can be re-arranged or refunded with at least 48-hours notice. With less than 48-hours notice, no refunds will be given (except for any travel charges paid but not incurred) and a new session will need to be booked. In exceptional circumstances, a partial refund or re-arrangement for a One to One session cancelled with notice of between 1 week and 48 hours may be made, at the sole discretion of Furry Tails Dog Training.
Suitability for Class Environment [Not applicable to One to One Training
Some dogs are not suited to a class environment due to over-arousal, fear, anxiety etc (this is not the same as a young puppy who is new to socialisation and is just a little nervous!). Dogs which are known to bark, snap or lunge towards other dogs or people within a distance of less than 10 meters will not be best placed in a class environment; it is simply not fair on your dog or the other attendees. If your dog is not suited to the class training environment now, we may be able to offer alternative solutions, such as one to one training sessions. If a dog is deemed by the trainer to be particularly stressed or reactive, despite the efforts of the owner and/ or trainer, the owner will be asked to remove the dog from the class (for that session or the rest of the course), in the best interests of both your dog and the others attending. Therefore, if you are unsure how your dog will respond to a class/ group environment, or have any concerns, you should discuss this with us before booking on to a course; refunds for course fees will not be given (see above).
Safety
Any instances of accident or injury must be reported to the trainer at the time they occurred. A first aid kit is available at training classes and carried by all staff during one-to-ones and training support sessions. All dogs must remain on lead and kept away from contact with other dogs unless specifically instructed by the trainer (eg. off- lead play). Flexi leads (extending leads) are not permitted in class, to avoid injury.
Children
Children are very welcome to attend classes / training sessions. We just ask that there are two adult’s for children 6 and under, to ensure that your puppy/dog have one adults undivided attention and that children do not approach or touch any dogs without appropriate supervision and permission. We accept no responsibility for children at classes and it is the responsibility of the supervising adult to ensure the children’s safety at all times. In addition, children must not be allowed to disrupt the learning and we reserve the right to ask for disruptive children not to be brought to classes in the future. Young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Health and Vaccination
All dogs and puppies attending classes should be suitably protected from the potential risk of disease as well as being appropriately treated for internal and external parasites. Furry Tails Dog Training advises that owners should consult their veterinary professional with regards to such issues. Whilst the indoor venues used by Furry Tails Dog Training are not routinely accessed by dogs (other than those attending classes), there can be no guarantee that there is absolutely no risk of disease at any venue or when in contact with any other dogs or materials, such as toys, which may have been in contact with other dogs. It is the owner/ handler’s responsibility to ensure that their dog is appropriately protected against the risk of disease: Furry Tails Dog Training accepts no responsibility for the potential or actual exposure of dogs to disease. If an owner chooses not to routinely vaccinate their dog / puppy (for example because they are choosing titre testing), this is entirely the choice of the owner and is a decision made at their own risk. By booking a place at a class and agreeing to these terms and conditions, you are accepting full responsibility for the protection of your dog from the risk of disease. Please do not bring your dog to class if he or she has been in contact with another dog infected by a contagious disease or if they appear to be unwell (eg. vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, runny nose etc). We accept bitches in season in class, we feel they exist in the real world and we want to help all our guardians understand how to help their dogs focus with seasons as distractions too, however if your bitch is ill, then we ask you to not bring her to class in line with the above health recommendations. If a dog is unable to attend classes, owners are encouraged and more than welcome to attend without their dog to keep up to date with the training course. If your dog has any known allergies or intolerances to certain foods or has any other special needs, it is your responsibility to bring this to the attention of the trainer prior to the start of the session.
Marketing/ Privacy
Photographs will be taken during training sessions. Such photos may be used by Furry Tails Dog Training for the purposes of marketing. For example, weekly photos and graduation photos are posted on our Facebook and instagram page. If you do not wish for photographs of you and / or your dog to be used or shared, please let us know. Furry Tails Terms and Conditions for Dog grooming
Health and Medical Conditions
Procedures within the grooming environment can be stressful for some dogs, especially for senior, young, overweight dogs or those with medical concerns. The process may expose unknown medical conditions or aggravate a current one during or after the groom. In the best interest of your pet this agreement will give Furry Tails Dog World permission to seek emergency veterinary treatment if we deem it necessary for whatever reason. We will do the best to contact you first, before taking your pet for treatment, however this may not always be feasible. Unless we are deemed to be negligent all medical expenses are the responsibility of the owner. By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions you are expressly agreeing to the following disclaimer:
Elderly, Infirm, Overweight or Young Dogs Disclaimer
A full groom can take in-excess of 3 hours and is physically demanding as well as stressful for some animals. Whilst Furry Tails Dog World make every effort to provide additional support to elderly/infirm/overweight and young dogs we cannot guarantee that your dog will be able to adequately support themselves for the duration of the groom which may result in serious health risks. There is also an increased risk of other injuries such as cuts and grazes. Furry Tails Dog World reserve the right to stop the grooming process at anytime with payment in full being due on collection of your dog.
Vaccinations
By using our services, owners confirm that their dog is up to date with their annual vaccinations against Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, and Canine Parvovirus. An unvaccinated dog may put itself and others at risk. Furry Tails Dog World takes no responsibility for any dog that may contract any of the mentioned above diseases.
Furry Tails Dog World may ask for proof of vaccination and veterinary information which must be provided.
Coat Condition
Furry Tails Dog World practice humanity over vanity. If we are presented with a neglected coat and believe, in our professional opinion, it is kinder to remove the coat than it is to de-mat this will be done in accordance with The Animal Welfare Act 2006. Whilst we will make every effort to identify this as part of the pre-groom consultation and coat assessment there may be occasions where the degree of matting cannot be fully identified until we commence the groom.
In this event we will make every effort to contact you however if this is not possible we will, in our professional opinion, do what we believe is in the best interest of the welfare of the dog. By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions you are expressly agreeing to the following De-Matting disclaimer:
De-Matting Disclaimer
Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal: – this includes prolonged ‘de-matting’ which is painful and detrimental to the welfare of the dog. If you bring in your dog with more than 15 minutes of de-matting work, we are required by the Act to clip your dog short humanely or refer you to your vet to do the same. We will only attempt to de-matt 5% of a dog – which equates to about 50p sized mat behind each ear, same size in the armpits and perhaps one or two in the groin or tail area. We have assessed your dog’s coat and found it to be matted, therefore it needs to be clipped short. This can be prevented by daily brushing with a slicker brush and comb. Will be happy to explain the correct way to brush your dog and suggest a grooming programme that will allow us to achieve the look you would like for your dog, this may involve more frequent visits to our salon and will certainly involve daily grooming at home. When a dog’s coat becomes matted, it causes discomfort as the matts pull tightly on the skin and underlying health conditions may not be visible. When a matted coat is clipped short, it may occasional reveal sore, reddened and irritated skin, this is due to the fact that the skin has not been able to breathe, and air circulation is not restored. Clipping a matted coat can take longer and cause additional wear and tear on our equipment so a further fee may be chargeable in addition to the normal groom price.
The process of de-matting increases the risk of injury including but not limited to cuts and grazes, skin irritations caused by the shortness of the clipper blades that will be used as well as possible haematomas. In addition, you may see some behavioural changes such as head shaking, excessive scratching, licking and “scooting”. This is where the dog will scrape their back end on the floor to relive itching and irritations. Should you have any concerns you should seek advise from your usual vet.
Additional charges may be incurred due to the wear on equipment, additional products used, as well as time and skill needed to remove matting.
Grooming Behavioural
Aggression
Owners have the obligation to inform Furry Tails Dog World of any known aggressive behaviour traits their pet may have to other animals or humans. Specifically, the owner must inform Furry Tails Dog World if they have been advised by pervious groomer(s) of any of these behaviours.
Nervous/Anxious Dogs
Although Furry Tails Dog World caters to dogs with nervous traits, owners have the obligation to inform us of any such behaviours for us to cater to their needs to the best of our ability.
Behavioural charges will be decided by Furry Tails Dog World depending on the severity of the behaviour and the time, skill, and equipment required to groom the dog. If your dog should bite you agree to be responsible for all related medical bills, loss of earnings and equipment damage. We reserve the right to refuse service if we believe your dog may become a danger to itself or those within the building. In the event any of these behaviours present during the groom the session may stopped at any time and the full fee incurred.
Please toilet your dog before attending their appointment. Fouling in the salon may result in additional charges.
Time Keeping
Furry Tails Dog World works to a strict time frame to ensure that your dog receives ample grooming time and one-to-one care. We expect to admit you at your given appointment time, if you are early we may not be able to grant immediate access and would ask that you wait until you allocated time. Likewise, if you are more than 15 minutes late we will may have to refuse your groom on welfare grounds as rushing the groom may lead to unnecessary stress and possible injury. A fee equal to the cost of the groom will be incurred. If you are more than 15 minutes late collecting your dog a late collection charges will be incurred.
